It is known that different herbs and spices can scientifically help you to lose weight. If your following the Lifestyle plan and your cooking for yourself at home how about adding some more ‘zing’ to your meals by including some extra ingredients. It will add a different flavour to your packs if you add a pinch of fresh herbs or spices to your soups or savoury meal packs.
Here are just a few to mention.
Usually known to help with digestion, it can also encourage weight loss. Its packed with ‘Capsaicin’ which help speeds up your metabolism. Why not try a nice soothing ginger tea? This drink is permitted on plan and also counts towards your water allowance, which is a bonus!
This has to be one of the most common spices from around the world and can also help with stomach problems. Research has shown that it contains ‘Piperine’ which has been linked to weight loss as it breaks down fat cells.
It can be bought as sticks, extracts or powdered. A small scoop of this can help lower your blood sugar and improve your insulin levels. When less sugar is stored as fat it can encourage weight loss. This would be great added to your porridges.
Whilst this is commonly used in cooking it has also been used in ancient traditional medicines. This spice contains ‘Curcumin’ which has been known to prevent the growth of fat tissue. A way to enjoy this spice is to sprinkle it on your scrambled egg pack. It also gives off a wonderful rich woody aroma.
This spice is commonly used in Indian dishes. It is known to help with digestion and promotes a good metabolism. Its use is also used to combat bad breath, which is a useful tip to some of our members as this can be a common side effect of ketosis. Try chewing on some seeds or try this in your tea to help rid of this. It would also make a nice change to your porridges.
With a lemony flavour and a fragrant aroma this aromatic herb can help reduce gas and bloating. Its also great for women who suffer from menstrual cramping. Why not stew yourself a nice cup of Thyme Tea by adding this to some boiled water and leave to seep for a few minutes.
This plant is part of the onion family and contains the ‘Satiety’ hormone which can control cravings and reduces binge eating. It’s a great detoxifier too. Blending some chopped garlic to plain yoghurt would make a great dip you could have as an accompaniment to your meals.
Commonly also known as ‘Pudina’ helps stimulate digestive enzymes that can turn fat into energy. I have known many of our members adding a sprig of this to their water to give a nice, refreshing taste. You could also try adding a bit of cucumber too.
The great thing about fresh herbs and spices is that they are very minimal in carbs. Please also check mixed blends like Curry Powder for example as these may include added starches in them, as some do. You could even make up your own different blends using various herbs or spices and add them to your meals. That would be something fun to make and tasty too!

I will certainly be eating more curries, I make one with ginger, garlic, turmeric, cardamom and black pepper in it (along with a few others) and now I know they can help me more than just tasting great.
Thank you x
Also adding garlic to food helps with adding flavour and provides the following benefits.
Garlic stimulates the satiety hormone which reduces binge eating, sugar cravings, junk food, and oily stuff.
It releases the norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter which boosts metabolism.
The allicin present in it lowers blood pressure, cholesterol and insulin levels.
Garlic inhibits the process breaking down stored fats.
It is a powerful detoxifier and effective diuretic.
It contains trace minerals (sulfur, selenium, magnesium, zinc, copper and iron), amino acids and vitamins A, C, and E.
It helps to dissolve blood clots that lead to heart stroke.
It has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
It helps to remove excess mucus from the body.
I soak ginger in milk, with honey & cinnamon too, for a few hours & then warm up in the microwave, delicious drink on a cold winters night.
