If you had told me at the beginning of this year that this would be the year I lost weight, I wouldn't have believed you! I've always been a big girl and confident about it, as that's the way I thought I'd always be. I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome in my twenties, and told simply to lose weight if I wanted my condition to improve and have any chance of conceiving. After a few failed attempts I gave up, being away from my family, mental health problems and an unhappy relationship meant that food and alcohol were a comfort to me. I loved cooking, baking and weekends in the pub.
When I turned 30 I moved back to my hometown and life got better. Living alone and working meant I relied on ready meals. I realised I was putting on more weight. I did eat healthily, loved fruit and salads, but I was eating huge portions. My knees were sore, and an MRI scan on my spine showed my weight had caused my posture to be so bad, I was suffering from trapped nerves and was beginning to lose the feeling in my hands and arms.
