I was a skinny child and a slim teenager, but when I got pregnant with my first child, I put on a lot of weight for the first time, I managed to lose it afterwards, but it was the beginning of my battle with weight.
When I got pregnant with my youngest daughter 13 years ago, I put on lots of weight again, but I told myself it was ok, I would lose it afterwards, it didn’t quite go to plan. Unfortunately, following my daughters birth, for the next 10 years, we were hit by one problem after another, financial, housing and family issues, including the death of my Dad and my Father in law within 6 months of each other. Being a typical comfort eater, I turned to food to feel better, and over the years, this became a habit. I tried every diet I could, sometimes losing a couple of stone but always giving up and gaining the weight back.
By lockdown last year, I was my heaviest ever weight of 18st 10lbs. I was unhappy, unhealthy and knew I couldn’t carry on like this. Around this time, I found a lump in my breast, and it made me realise I was putting my health at serious risk. While I sat waiting for my mammogram results, I promised myself I would do something about my weight once and for all. Thankfully I was given the all-clear, but it was the wake-up call I needed. I wanted to be there for my children for as long as possible, and I was also going to become a grandma soon.
I had tried VLCDs in the past and liked that they initially took food out of the equation; Slim and Save was so affordable, so I placed my first order. The first week was really difficult. I missed my comfort foods, and I was grumpy and tired, but my family were really supportive, and my husband took over the cooking for me. After that, I can honestly say it was easy, I lost weight consistently every week, and after 4 weeks, I switched to the lifestyle plan so I could eat in the evening with my family.
After only 5 months, I have lost 5, and a half stone and I feel amazing! I have so much more energy and can fit easily into my new size 12 jeans! I have another couple of stone to lose to be a healthy BMI but am confident I will get there. For now, I am taking my weight loss a bit slower and plan on trying the 5:2 plan, but I may go back to the lifestyle plan at a later date to lose the last little bit because I know it works!!
